What it is

A category is a domain and URL list a policy points at — "block gambling", "warn on social media", and so on. You can always build your own from any source you trust; the Exosys Curated Domain Lists are the ready-made alternative: 59 categories our own classification pipeline maintains and keeps current, covering nearly 3 million classified domains and growing with every release, so you get broad coverage without curating source lists yourself.

Why it matters that this is offline

Cloud secure web gateways typically check a category at request time against a vendor service: every URL your users visit is a lookup against someone else's cloud, and filtering stops working the moment that lookup can't complete. The curated lists work differently, the same way any policy on EnforceGate does:

• Downloaded once at install, then matched entirely on your own box — domains are stored as hashes, never plaintext
• No per-request cloud lookup: nothing about a visited URL is sent anywhere to classify it
• Refreshed regularly, on a schedule you control — updates land when you apply them, not on our timetable
• Keeps working if the internet doesn't: category matching has no runtime dependency on connectivity to us or anyone else
• Blend with your own sources: add or override with your own lists, community corpora, or a commercial feed you already subscribe to
